It's time to play Ms. Scrooge and skip right past the holidays and onto New Year's. Any writing resolutions out there? Any wishes -- or wishful thinking? Or wistful thinking, even?

What would you like to see happen in the new year? And don't say "world peace," even though it's true.

I want to actually finish some of the longer stories I've got planned out in my head. That's my writing resolution. Oh, and I'm gonna have a go at participating in the Glory Be! project, though that's more of an experiment than a hard and fast resolution.

Other resolutions...more exercise (cliche, cliche), not saying no to any new experiences/opportunities, doing as well in school as I can (these are all very standard), not letting mental and/or physical illness stop me from living too much.

Those all sound like great goals. I failed at NaPoWriMo (30 poems every day in April), so I'm sitting Glory Be! out. Too much pressure for the likes of me.

Not saying no to new experiences/opportunities is one I should take on myself. More power to you. And the last one, too, is an especially great one; don't let stuff like that set you back more than it absolutely has to. Easy to say; hard to do.

Happy New Year!

Yeah, I failed at NaPoWriMo too, and I'm not gonna beat myself up about it if I can't manage Glory Be. Might as well give it a shot though.

Thanks! I can be a stubborn critter on occasion, so hopefully it kicks in this year and I stick to my guns on these resolutions. Happy new year to you too. Best of luck!

At some point in this year I'm hoping to quite my job and become an Anagarika ([link]) at a nearby Buddhist Monastery

That's a lofty goal -- I hope you attain what you wish for.

I say what Liz said.....and I wish that no more stray dogs adopt me. Then maybe I can afford to travel more. :D

I had a baby this year, so next year, I want to get back in shape and lose 20lbs.
And I would like to write at least one general poem and one poem for a prompt a month. And enter at least 4 contests.

Baby weight is a tough one; I remember that (even though my "baby" is far from a baby anymore). It seems you're a pretty prolific poet, so I imagine you'll easily write the general poem. I've had mixed success, myself, with writing to prompts. Sometimes it works really well to generate work, though. And four contests? On dA or off of it? In either case, that's ambitious -- I'm impressed!

Yes, 20 lbs seems like a million to me. Before pregnancy, I couldn't gain weight if I tried. Losing it is rather foreign to me.
I hope to stay as determined throughout the year as I am now. Sometimes I get lost in life and forget to sit down to write. I am terrible for getting caught up in things and letting everything else fall to the way-side. Four contests on dA. I feel they are always the most inspiring prompts. They are most useful to me during dry spells.
No matter how it turns out, I am looking forward to 2013 very much!

I would like to write 2 poems a month that I am happy enough with to submit. (I was originally going to say a poem a week, but I failed to that this year, so I'm giving myself a little more time.) :work:

And, I would like to get published in a print journal, so I can hold the darn thing in my hands and go, "Nah, nah, look at me!" :nana:

Two poems a month! That would be super; all the best with that! I should probably promise myself to submit more, or at least not in big lumps and then nothing for months. ;) The one piece I got published was creative nonfiction, and it was both online and print. The print version wasn't lovely enough to give me bragging rights, though, so it didn't count.

I want to try and improve myself. Most cliche resolution ever, but since I'm heading back to school and reducing my hours at work, I figure the timing is right. I'd like to lose some weight, eat healthier, and do really well in school. I'm hoping the combination of the three will help me in my battle with depression and such.

What about you, bee? :)

I'm not near as ambitious as you. I don't make resolutions, per se -- the only New Year's resolution I ever made was to read Moby Dick within the year (and succeeded, if barely!). I would like to see my poetry published. I've had a creative nonfiction piece and supposedly a few of my poems were to be published this year, but I haven't seen it happen yet. I identify far more as a poet than as a writer, so that would be really gratifying.
